Coffee by Day, Cocktails by Night

Codependent is a coffee house and a cocktail lounge in the same room, at the base of The Independent in downtown Austin. We open at eight in the morning for espresso and a full breakfast menu, and we are still pouring long after dark. One room, two completely different moods, seven days a week.

Mornings

Espresso and drip coffee from eight, alongside a morning menu of breakfast tacos, wraps and paninis served through to three in the afternoon, and afternoon bites from eleven. Light comes through the full height curtains, the room is calm, and the wifi holds up.

Working from here for a few hours is welcome. We have a laptop policy that explains how we keep the room pleasant for everyone, and it is shorter and friendlier than that makes it sound. Meet someone for coffee, take a call at a communal table, or read for an hour without anyone hurrying you along.

Evenings

After dark the same room becomes one of downtown’s better cocktail bars. The list is organised by how a drink feels rather than what is in it, running from light and bright through refreshing and lively to rich and comforting, with a zero proof section that gets exactly the same care as everything else.

Alongside it, wine by the glass and the bottle, sparkling and rosé, beer, and a happy hour worth arriving early for. There is something on most nights: DJ sets, live music, and Wine Down Wednesday with jazz and specials on bottles.

Who it is for

People who work downtown and want somewhere better than a chain at nine in the morning. People who live in the towers above and around us and want a local that happens to be good. Anyone meeting a friend, a client or a date who would rather not shout over a crowd to do it. The room changes through the day precisely so it can be all of those without pretending to be any of them at once.
