Private Events in Downtown Austin
Coffee by day. Cocktails by night. Your event, either way.
Codependent sits at the base of The Independent on West Avenue, in the middle of downtown Austin. It is a coffee house in the morning and a cocktail lounge after dark, which makes it one of the few rooms in the city that can hold a nine o’clock strategy session and a nine o’clock celebration on the same day.
Indoor and outdoor space, a full bar, an espresso programme and a kitchen that runs from open to close. Bring ten people or bring the whole guest list.
Four ways to host
A section of the venue, 15 to 75 guests
Take an area of the venue while the rest carries on around you. Several spaces of different sizes, each with access to the full bar and menu, and screens you can present or share to. Fifteen to seventy five guests is the usual range, with some room to move depending on what you are doing. It suits a team happy hour, a client dinner, a birthday group or an afternoon workshop.
The side patio, seats 70
An outdoor room that works in every season, seating seventy. Lush patio furniture under large shaded umbrellas, space heaters and fans for the edges of the year, and fire pits for the evenings that call for them. It can be booked on its own while the rest of the bar carries on as normal, which makes it the easiest space here to hold without taking over the building.
The indoor venue, 173 guests
Everything inside is yours, up to a hundred and seventy three guests, while the patio stays open to the public. A full bar with premium spirits and a considered wine list, cocktails built around your guest list rather than ours, and sound hookups for your playlist or your own DJ.
There is no age restriction on an indoor buyout, so a company party, a graduation or a family milestone all work here on nights the bar is otherwise 21+.
The whole place
Indoors and the patio together, for when you want the building to yourself. Chic design that carries a happy hour, a presentation, a corporate function or a wedding celebration without needing to be dressed up first. Like the indoor buyout, a full buyout carries no age restriction.

The daytime advantage
Codependent opens at eight in the morning, seven days a week. Almost every other private event space downtown is dark until late afternoon, which leaves the entire first half of the day with nowhere good to go.
Daytime service runs from eight until three, which is the window most daytime events sit inside. Between three and five the room changes over, and happy hour at five starts the evening properly.
That makes this the room for a breakfast launch, a morning offsite, a brunch celebration, a daytime brand activation, or the quiet half of a conference week. Full espresso and coffee service, a morning menu of tacos, breakfast plates, wraps and paninis, and afternoon bites to carry a session through lunch. The same space, the same team, a completely different feel from the evening.

How pricing works
Private event pricing is built from a room fee plus a food and beverage minimum, and both depend on the day and the time you want. A Tuesday morning and a Saturday night are different propositions, so we price them differently. Service charge and tax are additional.
Tell us the date and roughly how many people, and we will come back with a number.
Events we host
Corporate events and offsites
A downtown address at the base of one of the city’s landmark towers, screens for presenting, and a room that turns from workshop to reception without anyone moving cars. Good for client entertaining, team celebrations and the working part of the day alike.
Morning meetings and breakfast launches
Real coffee, a proper breakfast menu and a private space at an hour when most venues are closed. The easiest way to start something without booking a hotel function room.
Festival season and SXSW
Downtown location, all day licence hours and a venue that works from breakfast activation to late night reception. If your week runs long, this room runs with it.
Birthdays and milestones
Take a section or take the building. Cocktails built for the occasion, a patio with fire pits, and a room that already looks the part. No age restriction on a buyout, so the whole family can come.
Engagements, showers and rehearsals
Daytime or evening, indoors or on the patio. The dual personality means the celebration does not have to pick a time of day to suit the venue.
Brand activations and launches
A design led space at a recognisable downtown address, with sound, screens and both indoor and outdoor footprints to build into. Part of the Urbanspace lifestyle group.
Common questions
How many people can you hold?
A hundred and seventy three indoors, seventy seated on the patio, and fifteen to seventy five for a section of the venue. You can take the inside on its own and leave the patio open, or take the whole place.
Can we book during the day?
Yes, and it is one of the things we do best. Daytime service runs from 8am to 3pm, the room changes over between three and five, and happy hour at five starts the evening. Full espresso and coffee service runs alongside the morning and afternoon menus.
Is there an age restriction?
Not for a full venue or full indoor buyout. Those have no age restriction, even on nights the bar is otherwise 21+, so family celebrations and mixed age guest lists are fine.
Where do guests park?
There is a paid parking garage connected to The Independent, and plenty of street parking nearby. For larger evening events we would encourage rideshare.
Can we bring our own food or a cake?
Cake is welcome at any event, always. Outside caterers are allowed for evening events. Whichever way you go, all food orders and outside caterers need to be confirmed at least seven days before your date.
Can we bring our own alcohol?
No. We hold the licence and are the sole provider of everything served here.
Is the patio available year round?
Yes. It is covered by large umbrellas, warmed by space heaters and fire pits in winter, and cooled by fans in summer.
Can we bring a DJ or make speeches?
Yes. The venue has premium sound hookups for a DJ or your own playlist, and screens are available for presentations and screen sharing.
Do you have a minimum spend?
Every private event has a room fee and a food and beverage minimum, both set by the day and time you book. Send your date through the form and we will come back with the figure.
How far ahead should we book, and what happens if we cancel?
Lead times vary with the size of the event and the date, so send us your date and we will tell you honestly whether it is workable. Your guaranteed final guest count needs to be with us in writing no later than seventy two hours before the event.
Where an event requires a deposit, cancellation works as follows: ninety or more days before the date, the deposit is forfeited and there is nothing further to pay; between thirty and eighty nine days, fifty percent of the estimated contract value; less than thirty days, the full estimated contract value.
Tell us what you have in mind. Send the date, a rough headcount and the shape of the day, and we will come back with spaces, menus and pricing that fit.
